From the big field trip

We are:

  • Cruz - age 3
  • Isabella - age 8 and in 2nd grade
  • Cyrus - age 10 and in 5th grade
  • Jason - the proud papa and a teacher of 10 years
  • Angela - the hardworking mama

Jason will be homeschooling his children using New Mexico content standards for grades 2-6, but all learning objectives will center on our day-to-day experiences as we travel the world. We will all add content to this page in the form of video, written journals, audio, photography, and artwork.

Our content will center on ecology, history and culture, folktales, family, and how people interact with the natural environment to meet their needs.

We hope that your students will join us as we travel. Our website offers opportunities to experience the wonders of discovery through travel as we document our experiences in South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia. As your students read, listen, and view these postings, we hope that they will be stimulated to ask questions that will lead to classroom discussions and further research. The ultimate goal is for students to respond to us in the form of comments.

Ideas for comments:

  • pen-pal style letters
  • collaborative research on social studies/science projects
  • questions that we can investigate in the field and report back to your class
  • suggestions to improve our website

The design and management of this website were made possible by a grant from Earth’s Birthday Project. This grant will also cover excursions in Tarapoto, Peru as we explore rainforest habitat that has been preserved through conservation efforts. This rainforest project is a collaboration with Earth’s Birthday Project’s 5th and 6th grade curriculum “The Rainforest Earth Day Science Symposium” and “The Big Gift“. We depart for Peru on October 1st. Over the following weeks the website will begin to grow. Expect to see a scavenger hunt activity, a student activity to orient studnets around the website, on this page by mid-October.

If you are interested in signing up, please do so in the space below. We hope you will join us.
